When Your Yoga Becomes Your Career

In Podcast, Pro-Healer by Cate Stillman

In this Changemaker Challenge episode, Cate and Grace rap about what happens when you use your career and your tribe as your evolutionary growth path. For changemakers, quite often what happens is that our yoga, the path we start on for self care, leads us to lead others. Sometimes it feels irrational, and sometimes it feels like it’s coming from ego, but if we allow ourselves to follow desire, we start to see a shift from wanting to squelch desire to actually wanting to allow our higher desires to guide us forward. Our desire to create more impact, our dharma, annihilates the ego, and we are able to let something bigger than us happen through us. The grittiness of desiring impact, the persistence of helping members or clients or students get results, becomes the dharma, the duty, the yoga. Sometimes we feel like we need to figure it all out on our own, but when we surround ourselves with and allow ourselves to learn from people who are having the impact we want to have, our awareness of how to make it happen naturally expands. And when we realize that our impact is directly related to our income, it forces growth. Impact and income go hand in hand. When we increase one, we increase the other. Setting bigger goals for ourselves year after year means we have to do something we’ve never done before. We have to change our approach.

What you’ll get out of tuning in:

  • How your yoga leads you to lead others.
  • How following your desire leads you to your dharma.
  • How your dharma gets your ego out of the way.

Show Highlights:

  • 0:30 – For changemakers, quite often what happens is that your yoga, the path you start on for self-care, leads you to lead others. Your yoga, then, becomes your career, and your self care practices become stabilizers for increasing your capacity to lead others to thrive.
  • 2:00 – If we follow desire, we start to see a shift from wanting to squelch the desire to actually wanting to allow our higher desires to guide us forward. Sometimes it feels irrational, and sometimes it feels like it’s coming from ego, but our desire to create more impact, our dharma, supersedes and digests the ego.
  • 7:55 – Setting bigger goals for yourself year after year means you have to do something you’ve never done before. You have to change your approach. Impact and income go hand in hand. When you increase one, you increase the other.
  • 9:00 – Sometimes we feel like we need to figure it all out on our own before we can get serious about changing our approach, but when we surround ourselves with and allow ourselves to learn from people who are having the impact we want to have, our awareness of how to make it happen naturally expands. And when we realize that our impact is directly related to our income, it forces growth.
  • 11:30 – Dharma used to mean duty. As we go into the next level of human evolution, there is a very co-creative capacity to duty as life purpose. When we intersect modern technology with the resources and wisdom of the last few millennia, we have more capacity than ever to affect the kind of impact we want to see in the world. Our duty to effect that impact annihilates the ego, and we able to let something bigger than us happen through us. The grittiness of desiring impact, the persistence of helping members get results, becomes the dharma, the duty.
  • 18:30 – There’s a learning to curve to all of this. With practice and repetition on a growth path, new levels of insight emerge and more flow occurs as yoga becomes our career. Our capacities for intuition and trust start to expand.
  • 21:00 – In a dynamic group, when a leader is able to allow change to be effected through her, it has a ripple effect and gives the other members of the group permission to do the same. Once we become attuned to the process of grounding in our expansion, we start to get comfortable with dharma always asking more of us.
  • 25:30 – In an upcoming webinar, Cate will be talking about how who we have to become in order to effect change in our members/clients/students/patients. Register at yogahealer.com/tribe
